Plant Care

Once you have laid the foundations and prepared your soil, sowed your seeds or young plants then plant care is easy.

Its all about checking for weeds and pests and dealing with them as soon as they materialize.

Also careful watering and harvesting making sure you don't let the ground dry out or damage the plant when picking the beans.

Make sure you don't leave old pods on the plant until late in the season because this will stop the plant from producing new ones.

To aid pollination you can spray the plants with water but avoid the midday sun when doing this.

Nature can also help you look after your plants. By planting for example Sweet Peas near your beans you will help to attract the pollinator insects like bees ensuring a good crop.

Planting Tagetes/Marigolds near your runner beans will help to attract predators like Ladybirds and Hover Flies that should take care of any Blackfly.
